PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Prince Frederick man was arrested after Maryland State Police say he entered a local Safeway despite an indefinite trespass order that had reportedly been issued against him more than a decade earlier.
Marvin Wayne Thomas, 59, of Prince Frederick, was charged with trespassing on private property following the Aug. 6 incident, according to charging documents filed in Calvert County District Court.
According to a statement of probable cause filed by a Maryland State Police trooper, the trooper was dispatched at approximately 9:38 p.m. Aug. 6 to the Safeway at 80 W. Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick for a reported trespassing incident.
The trooper arrived approximately two minutes later and located Thomas walking out of the store’s front entrance while being followed by a manager.
According to the probable cause statement, the manager told the trooper that Thomas appeared to be intoxicated and alleged that he had been following a group of women around the store while attempting to touch them.
The court documents provided do not indicate that Thomas was separately charged with an offense related to that allegation.
According to the probable cause statement, a records check revealed that Thomas was subject to an indefinite trespass order issued in 2014 by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office prohibiting him from entering the Safeway.
The charging documents do not provide additional details about the circumstances that led to the 2014 order or indicate whether Thomas knew the order remained in effect at the time of the Aug. 6 incident.
Thomas was placed under arrest at approximately 9:42 p.m., about four minutes after the trooper was initially dispatched to the store, according to the trooper’s statement.
He was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center.
Thomas faces one misdemeanor count of trespass on private property.
Court records show Thomas was released on his own recognizance.
Thomas is scheduled for a trial officer scheduling hearing Sept. 16 in Calvert County District Court in Prince Frederick.
