Hollywood, MD.โAs many events were being held to honor the men and women lost during the attacks of 9/11, Historic Sotterley Plantation was celebrating the new exhibit, “Land, Lives and Labor.”
This new exhibit will allow all year access for visitors to understand the life at Sotterley from the workersโ perspective.ย
This exhibit received funding from the Maryland African American Heritage Preservation Program, Maryland Historic Trust, and the Maryland Commission of African American History and Culture plus countless other Sotterley supporters. The donations allowed Sotterley to restore the 19 century Corn Crib.
Many special individuals where in attendance at this event including Nancy Easterling, executive director of Historic Sotterley, Inc., Janice Briscoe president of the Board of Trustees at Historic Sotterley, Inc., Dr. Julia King professor of Anthropology at St. Maryโs College of Maryland and Merideth Taylor, the project director of Land, Lives, and Labor.
โToday really marks a milestone for us, in our history. It is our responsibility to give back to the community, this exhibit was made possible due in large part to the African American Heritage Preservation Program. We just really want to say thank you to all the people who made this exhibit a realityโ, said Easterling.
โThis exhibit is really about giving voices to those who often had none,โ said Easterling.
