LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Lexington Park man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he fled the scene of a crash and was later found driving on a suspended license in St. Mary’s County, according to court records.
Legend McKinley Carter, 30, of Lexington Park, was arrested April 20, 2026, following a crash investigation in the area of Buck Hewitt Road and Thoroughbred Way.
According to the statement of probable cause, deputies responded to the area for a reported crash and located a damaged orange Dodge Charger that had gone over a curb and into an embankment.
Authorities said Carter, who was identified as the driver, fled from the vehicle after the crash but later returned to the scene and admitted to operating the vehicle.
During the investigation, deputies learned Carter’s driver’s license was suspended at the time of the incident.
Officials also reported Carter refused to comply with commands from a deputy while standing in the roadway, causing a disruption to traffic.
Carter is charged with failure to obey a lawful order, driving on a suspended license, driving without a required license, and failure to return to and remain at the scene of an accident involving property damage.
He was released on a $1,000 unsecured personal bond following his arrest.
Under Maryland law, driving on a suspended license can carry penalties of up to two years in jail depending on prior offenses. Failure to remain at the scene of an accident involving property damage carries a potential penalty of up to 60 days in jail and a fine.
A hearing is set for May 21, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court.
