After falling behind by a run, the Somerset Patriots reeled off nine unanswered runs to win going away over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 9-1 at TD Bank Ballpark. The Blue Crabs wrap up their eight-game road trip with a 1-7 record.
After falling behind 1-0 through 3 1/2 innings, the Patriots responded with one run in the 4th, two in the 5th, one in the 6th, two in the 7th, and three in the 8th to cruise to the victory. Gary Moran (1-2) went the distance for his first complete game of the season while Gaby Hernandez took the loss allowing four runs, two of them earned, over six innings.
C.J. Ziegler gave the Crabs a brief lead in the top of the 4th inning with a solo home run, his 6th of the season.
Ty Wright answered with a solo shot in the home half of the 4th to tie the game at 1-1, and Somerset took their first lead in the 5th after Adam Donachie scored on an error and Edwin Maysonet scored on an RBI groundout.
After an Eddy Martinez-Esteve sacrifice fly in the 6th, Nate Spears and Corey Smith hit RBI doubles in the bottom of the 7th to extend the lead to 6-1.
The final three runs for Somerset came across in the 8th. Aharon Eggleston drove in Martinez-Esteve with an RBI single, Donachie scored on a bases-loaded walk, and Maysonet scored on a fielderโs choice to bring the score to 9-1 Patriots.
The Crabs return home Tuesday to begin a three-game
