MECHANICVILLE, Md. — The windy weather didnโt stop vendors and community members from participating in the first of three Artisian Markets, hosted at Summerseat Farms. The event took place Sept. 2.
There are two more opportunities to get involved with the market as a vendor and a customer on the first Saturdays of October and November. These events will be held rain or shine.
Words could not express how well the market turned out, said Lori Burch, one of many event organizers. She also represented The Crescent Moon, featuring wheel thrown pottery, slumped glass.

โWeโve sold 40 spots for this month, and that was unexpected. We usually only sell about six to 10 spots,โ said Burch.
With each vendor spot going for a minimum fee, the funds collected will go toward the operational costs of Summerseat Farms.

Another vendor on site featured crafts such as carved wooden walking sticks, driftwood carvings, cooper jewelry, fossils and leather bracelets. Ralph and Teri Boswell weathered the wind and gray weather.
โThese walking sticks are made from hickory and other local woods. I also take blacksmithing classes and produced the railroad spike daggers over there,โ said Ralph Boswell.

Teri had on display some of the driftwood carvings towards the back of the tent, so they wouldnโt get damaged due to the weather. One of the driftwood carvings featured the face of a Green Man, a Celtic spirit that lives in forested areas.
โWe have bigger ones of course. But we didnโt want to bring them out because we weren’t sure of the weather,โ said Teri.

- Natalie Evans: baked goods, fruit drinks
- Mary Ann Groat: Wreath, crochet items, shell crafts, bird feeders, wind chimes
