NEWBURG, Md. — Firefighters from multiple departments responded Saturday morning to a house fire in Newburg, where crews worked to establish a rural water supply while battling flames that spread through the structure and attic.
Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 10:35 a.m. Aug. 8 to the 11700 block of Cuckold Creek Road for a reported house fire.
Initial information indicated all occupants had made it out of the home, while two small dogs were initially reported inside. By approximately 10:47 a.m., emergency personnel reported that all animals were also out of the house.
Firefighters arrived to find a two-story single-family home with fire showing and quickly confirmed a working fire.
Crews reported fire in the attic and faced limited access to the property, prompting a bumper relay operation to move water to the scene.
Because of the location, firefighters also established drafting operations from nearby waterways. Crews were directed to Hatton Creek Boat Ramp as a primary water-supply point, with Swan Point identified as a secondary location.
Fireboats were also requested to assist with the water supply, including a boat launching from Goose Bay.
As crews continued their attack, firefighters reported fire showing from multiple areas of the home, including flames later visible from an upper-floor window.
An oil tank was also reported next to the residence during the initial response.
At approximately 11:20 a.m., medical personnel were requested for a patient experiencing chest pain. An additional transport unit was requested, and crews coordinated transportation because of limited access near the home.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were not immediately available.
