Educators, elected officials and Democratic candidates met up at Adamโ€™s Ribs restaurant in Prince Frederick July 12 to show their support of Gov. Martin Oโ€™Malley.ย Theย governorย took time to meet and discuss issuesย one-on-one, once he hadย arrived at the crowded venue.

Former Senator Bernie Fowler and State Senate President Mike Miller acknowledged attendees and Miller poked fun at Republican opponents to energize the crowd.

Introducing Oโ€™Malley, Miller stated, โ€œThis man has got a vision.โ€
Oโ€™Malley offered โ€œgood news,โ€ sharing that the state had experienced โ€œthree months of positive job creation for the first time in three years.โ€ The statistic falls in line with what the governor called his โ€œtop goal: jobs to get us out of the recession.โ€
Optimistically, Oโ€™Malley said, โ€œOut best days are ahead of us,โ€ as he indicated new business tax credits and striving to remain โ€œenterprise-friendlyโ€ are also a priority.
The governor said with education, it will be โ€œchoices and hard workโ€ that will keep our schools top-notch. He boasted that Education Week has ranked Marylandโ€™s the best public school system for two years in a row and that tuition had not been increased for the past four years.
Violent crime rates, Oโ€™Malley said, are the lowest in decades and โ€œthe waters are cleaner than they have been in the last four to five years.โ€
He told Democratic candidates and supporters, โ€œIโ€ฆwe need your help. This yearโ€™s campaign is not only about the election, itโ€™s about the future generations.โ€ The governorโ€™s speech got interactive when he had them join in a โ€œchorusโ€ of โ€œforward, not back.โ€
Oโ€™Malley, along with running mate Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown, seeks re-election with the slogan, โ€œMoving Maryland Forward.โ€ Their mission, the governor said, is quite different than his Republican opponent and former Md. Governorโ€™s whom he referred to as, โ€œDonโ€™t call me a lobbyist Bob Ehrlich.โ€
