More than 5,000 fans endured a brief thundershower Sunday night as the legendary Allman Brothers rocked the stage at Calvert Marine Museum for nearly three hours.

Chairs served as the most suitable umbrellas for the 20 minute burst of rain, second to tap beer.

โ€œThank you for staying, even though it got a little wet there,โ€ said Gregg Allman at right after the final note. โ€œIt says a lot about you folks, God bless you.”

The concert was the headliner this year for the Museumโ€™s annual fund-raising concert series, which has drawn some huge names in music to Southern Maryland.

Through the years the stage has been occupied by BB King, Los Lobos, Martina McBride, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Bob Dylan, Merl Haggard, Smokey Robinson, James Brown, Travis Tritt, Trace Adkins, Montgomery Gentry, Chicago, Willie Nelson and now the Allman Brothers.

โ€œThe Allmans are quite a catch for us โ€ฆ theyโ€™re quite talented, and theyโ€™re not a flash in the pan, Museum Development Director Vanessa Gill told The Bay Net.

โ€œWithout this the museum wouldnโ€™t be what it is,โ€ she said, adding the organizers try to keep the other costs down. โ€œThereโ€™s $2 dollar parking and the beer is about as affordable as you can get it โ€ฆ itโ€™s a perk of living in Southern Maryland.โ€
