At 4:19 p.m. Tuesday, a 30-year-old woman was struck by a car while retrieving mail from her roadside mailbox.
Catherine Hope Batchelder, of Laplata, was taken by helicopter to Med Star Hospital, where she later died.
Police say a Mazda RX 7, driven by Merrill Eldon Colby, as traveling east on Hawthorne Road east of Mount Holly Place.
The car went off road into a ditch, and then struck Batchelder retrieving mail from the mailbox.
Colby, 57 of Bryans Road, has not yet been charged, as officers with the Maryland State Police, LaPlata barrack, continue the investigation. The only contributing factor yet released by Troopers is Colby failed to drive in a single lane.
