The Education Association of Charles County and the Board of Education signed a new contract.ย  The EACC representative joked, โ€œWow, this is the quickest accomplishment ever!ย  See what can be accomplished without money,โ€ but quickly commented on a more serious tone that the EACC would like to see a cost of living increase next year for the school system employees.

Superintendent Richmond discussed the Lackey High School student space flight program.ย  This program is run in partnership with NASA as part of its on flight research program.ย  Lackey students will have an experiment on board the last space flight.ย  They will compare the difference of a flowering plant germinated on earth and in space.

Lackey is one of a select few schools to have a science project experiment in space.ย  Charles County Board of Education will send students and teachers to see the launch in July at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.ย  The students will also have a brief appearance on Channel 7, wishing โ€œGood Morning from Lackey High School!โ€

A presentation, regarding the use of an outside auditor, was made to the board.ย  The auditors are responsible for determining if there is a more effective or efficient way to perform a particular operation.ย  This would offer the Board of Education a way to improve efficiency by getting solutions, suggestions and ideas, while also benchmarking with other similar operations.ย  The board is reviewing this option.
