William Anthony West

Leonardtown, MD –– Last year a number of St. Mary’s County residents got an unexpected Christmas present. Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Vice/Narcotics Bureau conducted a two-day sweep of the county right before Christmas and made a number of arrests. They dubbed the busts: “Operation Season’s Greetings.”

Among those arrested was William West, 37, of Lexington Park. West was sentenced July 13 to three years in jail, but all but one year was suspended. He will serve the time in the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.

The sentence was imposed by Judge Michael Stamm in St. Mary’s County Circuit Court. State guidelines for the crime are six months to three years.

West pled guilty March 20 to possession with intent to distribute oxycodone. West’s wife Lisa Marie was also caught in the operation. Charges against her were dropped.

West was represented at the sentencing hearing by public defender Sean Moran. The lawyer said of his client, “But for his addiction this offense would not have occurred.”

Assistant State’s Attorney Daniel White represented the state at the sentencing hearing.

Judge Stamm said he would give West credit against his sentence for any drug treatment and rehabilitation program he completed.
