La Plata, MD – Devon Mitchell Childs, 36 of Waldorf, will report to the Charles County Detention Center Nov. 9 after he pled before Charles County Circuit Court Judge Amy J. Bragunier Monday, Sept. 28 to conspiracy to distribute marijuana charges.
According to Charles County Assistant Stateโs Attorney Constance Kopelman told Bragunier that Feb. 23. 2015 at 12:25 a.m., Charles County Sheriffโs Office deputies were running radar on southbound Route 301 when a car passed through doing 70 miles per hour in a 45 zone.
An officer initiated a traffic stop and detected the strong odor of alcohol.
The operator, identified as Childs, became belligerent, Kopelman said.
โOfficers found three sandwich bags containing 57 grams of marijuana,โ Kopelman told the court. โThe defendant stated he did not smoke.โ
Childsโ problems were compounded when he was stopped July 31 and arrested for driving while suspended.
โHe didnโt know he was suspended,โ defense attorney Don Castro told Bragunier. โThey gave him his license the day after he was arrested. Iโm asking for probation before judgement.โ
Bragunier handed down an 18 month active sentence on the CDS with intention to distribute charge, and tacked on 60 days for the driving while suspended charge, as well as another 60 days on a previous charge.
Childs violated his probation by getting arrested, saying she would close out his period of probation in that case.
She also granted work release.
โPer the agreement, he will turn himself in November 9,โ Castro said.
