To All Parents and Peers of St. Mary’s County Public Schools, It is with great pleasure to share with you how enjoyable our family extended Labor Day weekend was, with the last weekend of summer vacations going on and a beautiful weekend to get out and enjoy the time off before school is set to get back in the routine once again.
Only to be hit head on with the worst intestinal virus to all of man kind that any one would not want or wish to ever get. This is a contagious virus; if it was an elder person or any one with on going health problems they would be hospitalized. I know children are more susceptible to these kinds of things and bringing them home from school, but it should have been a warning to parents to not send their kids to school due to this illness. I
It all started on a Thursday morning getting my son ready for school like any other school day, only for him to tell his dad his stomach was hurting that he had a stomach ache and did not want to eat. So as any parent should do or have done; you take precautions like checking temperatures or eliminating the problem, or IF ANY ONE AT SCHOOL HAD BEEN SICK, only to find out that one of his classmates had been sick.
We had to keep my son home on his seventh and eighth day of school already, due to the virus that was passed on to him and who knows how many other students were infected by this and then was passed on to his parents and who knows how many other parents as well. I couldn’t tell you how much I enjoyed spending my weekend absolutely miserable, every bone, every muscle, and every organ in mine and my husband’s body ached not to mention the trips to the bathroom.
Only for the parents to have to suffer harder than the children when we get sick and to have a longer down time for this, and to have days missed from work due to this inconvenience, some of us are self employed out here and when we don’t work we don’t get paid, not that you care since it didn’t happen to you or maybe it has and you know where I am coming from.
So the next time parents think there child has a little tummy ache or is not feeling good have consideration on all of the classmates, parents, and teachers whom you will have infested just because of your carelessness of being an irresponsible parent.
Let’s go to the Code of Conduct for this years rules of school to abide by, maybe all of these rules are for a reason and maybe parents should start at home and read these rules themselves and learn what they mean before preaching to the children, after all your child learns from the parents and one should be a good example for this.
Maybe the rules wouldn’t be so restricted or confined if one was to do as they are told to do. I feel you should be Responsible and not send your child to school sick or have Respect for one self before making the decision to send your child to school only to be sent home.
If you can’t follow directions then the rules are only going to get harder. I think that all of the schools song for this year should be titled “JAIL HOUSE ROCK” due to all the student conducts that parents have to go by. When you send your child to school they go to learn and get educated, not to a daycare and assume that the teacher will handle it, they to have a guideline to go by as well.
This is what I see these days; turning them loose in schools and have the teachers deal with the problems, is not the solution, the problem starts at home and should be handled under the parent’s supervision. Parents should work with their children to learn the rules at home and in school and I t
