SOLOMONS, Md. — One person was airlifted to a trauma center and a driver was arrested following a serious three vehicle rollover crash Sunday night on the Thomas Johnson Bridge.

The crash, which temporarily shut down the bridge between Calvert and St. Mary’s counties, was reported shortly after 8 p.m. May 10, 2026, after an SUV overturned during the collision.

Emergency crews arriving on scene found three heavily damaged vehicles and multiple occupants requiring medical evaluation.

Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 transported one adult patient to Capital Region Medical Center for treatment. Several additional patients were evaluated at the scene, with at least two signing care refusal forms after assessment by EMS personnel.

During the investigation, deputies administered field sobriety tests to one driver, who was later arrested at the scene. Authorities have not released the identity of the driver or any potential charges.

The bridge remained closed for an extended period while crews cleared debris and investigators processed the crash scene before reopening later Sunday night.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
