At 2:15 p.m. April 16, Mechanicsville volunteer firefighters and rescue squad personal responded to 29675 Point Lookout Road in Helen for a head-on vehicle crash with injuries, reports VFD Assistant Chief John Raley.

As units were arriving, additional information was being obtained from subsequent callers advising there were at least two trapped in separate vehicles and the patients were in respiratory distress. Additional EMS units were then called in and Trooper 7 helicopter was alerted.

Rescue Squad 2 arrived on scene and its crew went to work stabilizing both vehicles in order to free the trapped occupants. Extrication of both victims was completed in approximately ten minutes.

EMS personnel requested a second helicopter transport as they had three patients to medevac. Trooper 2 helicopter was alerted to the incident per the request.

Engine 10 assisted the EMS crew while Engine 24 established the landing site for Troopers 7 and 2 in a field at Margaret Brent Middle School.

Trooper 2 flew one patient to R. Adams Cowley shock trauma while Trooper 7 flew the other two patients to Prince George’s General. There was one refusal of treatment obtained as well.
