Authorities in St. Mary’s County arrested a man Saturday night Sept. 25 around 8:30 p.m. after receiving a lookout for a vehicle driving in an unsafe manner and possible drunk driver.

The driver of a 1970’s Chevrolet Chevelle was located onย Rt. 235ย and subsequently pulled over in the parking lot of the Donut Connection in Lexington Park. A large dog exited the vehicle as the officer approached. The driver was told to exit the vehicle and place the dog in the back of the car, the driver complied.
The driver exited the vehicle and appeared to be intoxicated. After exiting the vehicle, the driver was detained and placed in hand cuffs. The officer then asked the driver to perform a roadside sobriety test. Following the sobriety test, the driver was informed he was under arrest and to place his hands behind his back. The driver failed to obey the commands of the officer numerous times and proceeded toward the officers in an aggressive manner.

The suspect was then tased by officers.

EMS crews were called to the scene to check on the subject. Animal Control was called out to collect the animal.

The driver has been identified as Kelven Eugene Johnson, 45 of Lusby. Johnson was charged with DUI, Resisting Arrest along with a few other traffic violations.

Johnson claims he was on his way to Popeyeโ€™s Chicken because there were none in Calvert.
