On May 11, at 10:48 a.m., a 911 Broadcast was made reporting a theft in progress at the Family Dollar Store in the 40000 block of Merchants Lane in Leonardtown.
While responding to the scene, the 911 Center advised the suspect was leaving in a silver 2001 Cadillac. Tpr. M. Pitcher observed the vehicle at the intersection of Point Lookout Road and Hollywood Road in Leonardtown and initiated a traffic stop.
The suspect, Sherman Barry Gross, 57 of Lusby, was taken into custody and positively identified by the male employee. Gross attempted to steal two items from the store totaling $13.70.
Gross was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was charged according and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
