UPDATE: LEONARDTOWN, Md. –  The fire was first discovered by a neighbor.

On March 6, 2021 at approximately 5:10 p.m., Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding departments responded to the barn fire reported at 41021 Cryer Court in Leonardtown.

A total of 70 firefighters arrived to the scene to find a large hay barn fully engulfed in flames with heavy smoke. The fire began to quickly spread to vehicles and brush surrounding the barn. Firefighters had the fire under control in 45 minutes.

Tanker fill sites were established at Abell’s Wharf and Starlight Drive.

The state fire marshal has determined the fire originated from inside the barn. The cause still remains unknown at this time.

The fire destroyed the 50 x 100 barn along with a large amount of hay stored inside. The estimated structure loss is $150,000.00 and contents $ 150,000.00. No injuries have been reported.

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — We are receiving reports of a barn fire in the area of Cryer Ct. in Leonardtown.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. on March 6, units responded to calls of a 50 x 100 ft barn which was sending up a heavy smoke column. Fire had fully engulfed the barn, as well as the vehicles that were contained within. Additionally, fire began to spread to nearby brush. 

A tanker fill site has been established at Abell’s Wharf, utilizing water supply 5 from the Seventh District Volunteer Fire Department.
