UPDATE: Following an officer involved shooting in Leonardtown, the Maryland State Police(MSP) have confirmed that the victim of the shooting, a teenager, has passed away from his injuries at this time. The victim was reportedly holding an “Airsoft gun” and a knife when he was approached by nearby police, where he was eventually shot multiple times.
When units responded to the property, MSP identified the boy who was later determined to have been holding a realistic toy gun and was reported to have been standing in a shooting position. Officers would proceed to discharge their weapon at the boy.
MSP stated during their press conference that while the boy was on the ground, he proceeded to reach for his knife despite warnings from officers, before being shot by police again. He was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital where he would eventually succumb to the gunshots.
The victim has been identified as the 16-year-old Peyton Ham.
The MSP have placed the officer who shot the boy on administrative leave during the course of the pending investigation.

UPDATE: A Maryland state trooper from the Leonardtown Barrack has been involved in a shooting after responding to a call for an individual who was possibly armed with a gun. The incident occurred not far from the Leonardtown Barrack. We have no additional details at this time. A spokesperson is en route. A media staging area has been established at the Leonardtown Barrack.

LEONARDTOWN, Md. – On April 13, at approximately 1:28 p.m., police responded to the area of 23260 Hollywood Road. After arriving to the scene police requested medical personnel for the reported gunshot victim.

Emergency units are on the scene with one subject suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The patient has been transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital awaiting MSPAC Trooper 7 to transport the patient to a local trauma center.
