WHITE PLAINS, Md. — A Temple Hills man was charged after homeowners returning from vacation found him sleeping in a bedroom inside their White Plains home, according to charging documents.

Marcus Antonio McCoy, 24, of Temple Hills, was charged with fourth-degree burglary of a dwelling and two counts of second-degree assault following the June 20, 2026, incident.

According to charging documents, officers responded around 7:35 p.m. to a home in the 10800 block of Willetts Crossing Road in White Plains for a reported breaking and entering in progress.

The homeowner told police he and his son had returned home from vacation and found several young children on their front porch crying and saying they could not find their father, according to charging documents.

As the homeowners entered the residence, they found an unknown man, later identified as McCoy, lying on a bed in the master bedroom.

Charging documents state one of the homeowners yelled at McCoy to wake him up. McCoy allegedly mumbled something incoherently.

One homeowner then went to the back door, retrieved an unloaded shotgun and racked the action in an attempt to startle McCoy, according to charging documents.

McCoy allegedly became agitated, got in the homeowner’s face and said he would not do anything, according to court documents.

A struggle followed in the living room, where both homeowners restrained McCoy until officers arrived.

Charging documents state McCoy struggled to break free by kicking at one homeowner and trying to push the other off him.

One homeowner was evaluated at the scene for pain while breathing and was later taken by ambulance to a hospital for a complaint of internal injuries to his rib cage.

Court records show McCoy was released on recognizance June 21.

A trial is set for Aug. 7 in Charles County District Court.
