โ€ข Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 17, the St. Maryโ€™s County Department of Aging Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will be sponsoring two Volunteer Training at the Northern Senior Activity Center.

These trainings are part of a local and national effort to organize volunteers and non profits in the county to be able to respond to disasters and to better prepare non profit organizations for dealing with spontaneous volunteers. The first training session will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 17 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and will focus on managing spontaneous volunteers in times of disaster using the volunteer reception center model.

The second training will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, between 9 a.m. and noon and will focus on volunteer leaders in times of disaster, and is geared towards volunteers in the community, as well as those wishing to learn more on how to identify potential volunteer leaders.

If you are a volunteer who aspires to greater responsibility and the rewards that follow, then learning how to be a better leader is necessary to getting there.

These training sessions are free for all RSVP member volunteers and a small fee will be charged for all others that will include course materials and refreshments. Both sessions will be run by trainers from the Disaster Management Department of The Points of Light Foundation in Washington D.C. and in conjunction with the St. Maryโ€™s Department of Public Safety.
