Solomon’s Island is about to be invaded by Agents of the Sun.  They will be performing Friday night, June 9 at Badfish Dock Bar and Grill.  This Baltimore based quintet is riding high off of their latest release “Monarchs of a Fallen Society.” They just played two big festivals recently, the 2006 HFStival and The Throwdown in Fredericksburg, Va.  One listen to their latest release and you’re hooked.  Their sound has been described as an eclectic hard rock mix that plays well on radio, but they are also known for having awesome harmony, which is rare for a rock band.

The band members – Jason Fubler on guitar, Frankie Hernandez on Bass and backup vocals, Ralph Rodriquez on guitar and backup vocals, brothers Ray Dobson as lead vocals and Dave Dobson on drums -really come across as a family of sorts.  When they cut their latest release, “Monarchs of a Fallen Society,” they had the good fortune of having 311’s Chad Sexton mix the CD for them.  When you have a heavy hitter like that, you know you’re going to have a great CD. The CD is rising up the charts and the buzz in the music business is that Agents of the Sun are knocking on the door to success. Just ask Venus Williams, yes, the same Venus Williams who once dominated the women’s tennis scene.  She is a huge fan of Agents of the Sun, so these guys are definitely getting noticed.  They have shared the stage with some well known bands, 311, Third Eye Blind, Papa Roach, and Saliva, just to name a few.  One website characterized Agents of the Sun as a stripped down Linkin Park.  I would agree but I’d also add that they have better harmony with their vocals than Linkin Park. 

As a special treat, Badfish Dock Bar and Grill (by the way, their name comes from a Sublime song) has lined up local band Flingin’ Ferrets for an 18 years and up pre-show.  The band features brothers Sean Griffith on drums, Joey Griffith on lead vocals and bass and longtime friend Brad Turner on guitar and backup vocals.  This talented trio has known each other all their lives, growing up just 6 houses from each other.  Their music is pop punk with a hard edge.  And they have a growing fan base.

Badfish Dock Bar and Grill is establishing themselves as the place to be on the weekends.  They usually have a DJ on Friday, but this show came up due to a cancellation elsewhere and they jumped on it.  On Saturdays, they have the top cover bands in the Mid-Atlantic. The staff is friendly and very attractive and accommodating. Guys, the place is always packed with probably the hottest women you’ll find in this area.

So yes, this show takes place at night, but with The Flingin’ Ferrets opening and then Agents of the Sun headlining, the night will be so bright, you’re going to need to wear shades!  I know I will, so join me, your man on the local music scene and catch local band Flingin’ Ferrets and see Agents of the Sun before they start playing the big stadium tours.
