UPDATE The Maryland State Police, Prince Frederick confirm that Route 231 has reopened following a serious motor vehicle accident this afternoon. A spokeswoman at the Barracks had no further information on the accident, which is being investigated by Trooper Matthews.

4:15 p.m. The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office reports that Route 231 will be closed until 8 p.m. while authorities investigate a motor vehicle accident. The investigation is being handled by the Maryland State Police. The duty officer at the Prince Frederick Barrack had no details to release at this time but indicated a press release would be issued soon. The accident occurred this afternoon on Route 231 near the entrance to the Calvert County Fairgrounds, police said.

3:45 p.m. – Troopers from the Maryland State Police (MSP) in Prince Frederick are currently investigating a motor vehicle accident on Route 231 (Hallowing Point Road) near the entrance to the Calvert County Fairgrounds, police said.
