At 1:31 a.m., Jan. 1, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the area of Caroline Drive and Goose Creek Drive in La Plata for the report of people preparing to fist fight.
Upon arrival, officers observed Arnold Jeffery Mason, 19, of La Plata walking down Potomac Street yelling profanities. Officers ordered him to stop but Mason persisted to scream like an idiot.
When Sgt. D. Bacon attempted to arrest Mason, he became combative and assaulted Sgt. Bacon. Other officers responded and Mason was subdued quickly and taken into custody.
He was charged with assault on a police officer, second degree assault, failure to obey a lawful order and disorderly conduct. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Officer C. Figgins investigated.
