Leonardtown, MD — A storm quickly moved through the Leonardtown area Friday night. But by the time of the scheduled 5 p.m. start for Leonardtownโ€™s Frist Friday โ€Paint-Outโ€ the weather was cooperating. Itโ€™s a good thing because as the name suggested, it was intended to be largely an outside event.

Painters and photographers set up their easels and tripods all over town to display their art skills while at the same time giving visitors a chance to view works in progress and also get some of the fine points of what they were doing by talking to them.

Some of the artists spread around town (both outside and inside) were Pauline Lang, Zhilan Wang, Kate Willette, Jonathan Nordstrom, Nell Elder, Brenda Elmore, Angelica Ballard, Debbie Bailer, Jane Rowe, Ann Preston, Ray Ewing, Tas McWilliams, Laurence Langfeldt, Peg Gowen, Jim Bershon, Candy Cummings, Jeanne Hammett, Mary Ida Rolape, Christina Allen, Ruth Cullins, DeAnn Adler, Carrie Patterson, Bernard Matus, Nicole Stewart, Molly Hewitt, Gaye Dugan, Andy Plautz and Louise Korade.

Author Ellynne Brice Davis and illustrator Joyce Judd were selling their books, including their popular โ€œHalloween Fright on a Chesapeake Nightโ€ outside on the square, and author Pesta Clark was inside Fenwick Street Used Books.

An Art Walk allowed visitors to stroll town and vote for their favorites. First 100 to turn in their ballots at Leonardtown Art Center received a prize.

The galleries and other shops were open and of course visitors could partake of dinner at the slew of restaurants in town. Music was performed on the square by jazz trio Higher Standard.

The artsy town continues its event schedule is the all-day Art Work Shop Leonardtown on Saturday, September 12. It features hands-on projects, classes and workshops and a chance to interact with the artists and learn their techniques. For more information go to www.stmarysartscouncil.com
