LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Itโ€™s not every day that the community can witness artists gather and create beautiful paintings of the downtown scenery.

Leonardtown Business Association hosted the September First Friday eventย Sept. 2. It was a fun chance for the community to see beautiful art created by talented artists from St. Mary’s County and beyond, said event coordinators.

The ArtWalk is an important component to the Leonardtown Arts and Entertainment designation celebration, and artwork will be displayed at various businesses throughout Leonardtown from Aug. 31 to Oct.1.

Community members had the opportunity to vote for their favorite pieces at the Leonardtown Arts Center that evening. The first-place artists will receive a cash prize of $100, while second and third places will each receive a gift certificate to a Leonardtown restaurant.

Community members also had the opportunity to enjoy live music in the downtown square by Higher Standards, a vibrant, sophisticated, and versatile jazz trio. Band members Alex Bizzarro, Frank Smith and Ambus Hunter each bring their own style to the table for traditional jazz with a contemporary vibe, said event coordinators.

Bob Schaller and Friends were also performing at Port of Leonardtown Winery that evening to help raise money for the 2017 St. Mary’s County Business, Education and Community Alliance (SMBECA) scholarship fund. The band had a list of 40 blues and rock songs featuring artists like Allman Brothers, Santana, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones and more.
