Calvert High School Principal Susan B. Johnson and Calvert Career Center Principal Barbara McKimmie issued the following letter to parents this afternoon about the schoolโs continuing water supply problem.
Dear CHS and CCC Families,
ย
Thomas (Tuck) Powers, Director of School Facilities, informed me today that the water test was positive for bacteria again.
Due to this, immediately following the SAT administration on Saturday morning, Calvert High and the Career Center will be closed to staff, and to the public, for the rest of the weekend.
Our well and water system will be treated by an outside licensed well company as recommended by the Maryland Department of the Environment/Water Management Administration. Following the treatment to disinfect the system, the water will be re-tested on Monday.
Until cleared by the testing lab, we will continue to operate as outlined below. Throughout, we have maintained open lines of communication with the Calvert County Health Department and have proceeded only after seeking their guidance and receiving their approval.
ย
For SATโs on Saturday:
Restroom facilities will be functioning. Bottled water will be provided to the students and staff who are taking part in the SAT administration.
ย
CHS Week-end Activities:
Saturday morning activities will continue: (SATโs, Athletic Practices, Saturday School)
ย
At 12:30PM, Saturday, the CHS/CCC facility will be closed to the staff and to the public for the remainder of the week-end in order for the treatment to occur.
ย
Mr. Spain will meet with his AP students in his portable classroom.
ย
When we return to school on Monday and Tuesday, we will continue to:
ย
โขย ย ย ย ย ย ย Allow students to drink other products in classrooms.
โขย ย ย ย ย ย ย Allow students to carry drinks in the hallways.
โขย ย ย ย ย ย ย Keep emergency water in the classrooms.
โขย ย ย ย ย ย ย Place additional cups in classrooms.
โขย ย ย ย ย ย ย Keep hand sanitizers available in the restrooms and in classrooms.
โขย ย ย ย ย ย ย Close ice machines for use.
ย
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact either of us at school.
