Sometime between Oct. 7 and Oct. 28, two suspects forced entry into a residence on a historic site in the 7700 block of Ann Harbor Drive in Port Tobacco.

The suspects broke a kitchen window and stole antique silver items, most of which they later sold to the Apple Basket antique shop in Mechanicsville. One of the suspects used his driver’s license during the transaction; Sheriff’s officers subsequently identified him and the other suspect.

Russell Andrew Melvin, 20 of La Plata, and Stephen James Adams, 23 of Port Tobacco, were charged with first and third-degree burglary, theft of property valued at more than $500 and malicious destruction of property.

They were released pending court appearances. All of the stolen property was recovered from the antiques store and Adams’s residence.
