Near 12 p.m. Wednesday, police say Antonio Warren Gantt, 40 of St. Leonard, robbed the Maryland Bank and Trust in Lexington Park, for the second time.
Gantt jumped over the counter, threw gasoline on two clerks and demanded money, reported Lt. Rick Burris, commander of the St. Mary’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
The clerks complied and Gantt fled with a large amount of money.
He obtained a taxi cab and was traveling on Route 4 heading towards the Thomas Johnson Bridge when he was apprehended without incident by police.
Gantt was also wanted by BCI detectives for the Sept. 25 robbery at the same bank. After that robbery Gantt fled the state.
Gantt was charged with first-degree Assault, Theft and 2 counts of Armed Robbery. Additional charges are forthcoming. The stolen money was recovered by detectives. Gantt is currently incarcerated at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.
