An early morning barn fire in St. Mary’s County is under investigation by state authorities. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze on Colton’s Point Road in Morganza was reported by a neighbor around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 15.

Thirty-five volunteer firefighters from Leonardtown, Seventh District, Mechanicsville, Hollywood and Bay District were dispatched to the one-alarm fire and had the flames under control in 2o minutes. No injuries were reported.

According to Dfm. Don Brenneman, damage to the 30-foot-by-80-foot pole barn is estimated at $300,000.

The barn was reportedly owned by Brian Russell.

The cause and area of the barn where the fire originated remain under investigation.
