LUSBY, Md. — A Lusby man was arrested and charged with burglary and malicious destruction of property after police say he broke a basement window while attempting to enter a neighboring home in Calvert County.

Adam Joseph Slankard, 31, was charged following an incident reported the evening of Dec. 30, 2025, at a residence in the 900 block of Chart Court in Lusby, according to court records.

Maryland State Police from Barrack U in Prince Frederick responded shortly after 8 p.m. to a report of a burglary in progress. The caller reported seeing a white male wearing a red flannel shirt at the residence. A responding trooper observed a man matching that description nearby and identified him as Slankard, who lives next door to the victim’s home.

According to charging documents, the homeowner told police he heard glass breaking and discovered a broken basement window with shattered glass inside the residence, indicating an attempted entry. Investigators reported finding a fist-sized rock on the basement floor and damage to the window frame and screen. The homeowner estimated the cost to repair the damage at approximately $1,000. No items were reported stolen.

Police said a neighbor witnessed Slankard walking between the two homes shortly after the window was broken and did not see anyone else in the area at the time. Court records note that children were inside the home during the incident.

Slankard was advised of his rights and declined to provide a statement, though police said he expressed interest in paying for the damaged window rather than facing charges.

Slankard was arrested by Maryland State Police Trooper C. Parker and charged with fourth-degree burglary and malicious destruction of property valued at $1,000 or more, both misdemeanors.

He was released on his own recognizance following a bond review on Dec. 31. A trial officer scheduling hearing is set for Feb. 9, 2026, in Calvert District Court.

  1. Personally know this Adam Slankard. He has always been an enabled thief. Knew it was a matter of time before seeing him on here. He has been doing this since he was a child, and now 31. Hope the county finally throws the book at him. He has always dodged being held accountable
