SOLOMONS, Md. — Firefighters worked through heavy smoke and hoarding conditions Friday morning while battling a fire inside a home on Dowell Road in Solomons.
The fire was reported around 10:53 a.m. June 5, 2026, in the 13600 block of Dowell Road.
Dispatch information initially indicated smoke detectors were sounding at a single-family home while the caller was away. Crews later found smoke conditions inside the residence and worked to locate the fire.
Firefighters reported hoarding conditions inside the home, which complicated efforts to locate the source of the fire. Crews eventually found fire in the basement.
The bulk of the basement fire was knocked down, and firefighters worked to check for extension into the upper levels. Crews reported low visibility and mild heat on the third floor while ventilation efforts were underway.
A primary search of the home was completed and was negative.
Officials said the fire originated in the basement. Crews later reported no fire found on the first, second or third floors, and no remaining fire in the basement walls.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal was notified and requested to investigate the cause of the fire.
