The 2013 Bay Harvest drew a sizable crowd to North Beach Saturday, Oct. 5. The six-hour street festivalโ€”a rebirth of the townโ€™s Bayfest, which for a quarter century attracted thousands for two days during late August weekendsโ€”was blessed with perfect summer weather. With temperatures soaring near 90 degrees, visitors had plenty to do along the North Beach bay front.

There were numerous vendorsโ€”retail, food, crafters, service organizations, churches and local politicians. Both Twin Beach municipalitiesโ€”North Beach and Chesapeake Beachโ€”had booths.ย

Several local restaurants competed in the townโ€™s first-ever cream of crab soup cook-off.

Pig and duck races entertained the crowd. Co-headlining at the pavilion stage were popular performers Sam Grow and Sara Gray.

Later this month North Beach will celebrate Halloween with its annual Boo Bash and something new this year, a dog contest to choose โ€œThe Hound of the Town.โ€ The proceeds from that event, scheduled for Oct. 26, will benefit Calvert Animal Welfare League.

With the hot weather of Oct. 5 sure to be a memory in two months, area residents are also getting set the townโ€™s annual Holiday Parade, Saturday, Dec. 7.
