INDIAN HEAD, Md. — Less than a year after opening its storefront in Indian Head, Blended Bakery is packing up its mixing bowls and preparing for a new chapter outside Charles County.
The specialty bakery, known for its gluten-free treats, announced that its run in Indian Head has come to an end. The business stressed, however, that it is not closing — just changing addresses. Blended Bakery is heading to a new storefront in Capitol Heights, though an opening date and address have not yet been announced. The bakery said it is preparing the new space and will share details once it is ready to welcome customers.
A Short But Sweet Run In Charles County
The move comes just months after Blended Bakery celebrated the grand opening of its Indian Head storefront at 4840 Strauss Ave. on Nov. 29 and 30, 2025.
Blended Bakery specializes in gluten-free baked goods and also offers dairy-free and sugar-free options — a niche that co-owner Kat Tan said was underserved in the region when the Indian Head shop first opened. Tan noted that much of the gluten-free and sugar-free market in Southern Maryland had been served by home and cottage bakers rather than a dedicated storefront.
The business got its start in 2021, building a loyal customer base through farmers markets, festivals and pop-up events throughout the Washington metropolitan area before putting down roots in Indian Head.
Although the storefront is closing, Blended Bakery said in a Facebook post it will continue to be a familiar face at weekly farmers markets and other pop-up events while the Capitol Heights location is being prepared. The bakery also thanked the Town of Indian Head and the broader Southern Maryland community for their support during its time in Charles County.
