Waldorf, MD – Wednesday, Feb. 6 was National Signing Day where prospective college athletes officially commit and sign their letters of intent to their homes for the next four years. Many eyes were on St. Charles High School senior Kameron Blount who verbally committed to the University of Maryland last spring as a 3-star outside linebacker.
Blount took a surprise visit to Georgia Tech a few weeks ago, catching the coaches who originally recruited him to Temple off guard. “I asked Coach Collins if I could visit and they didn’t know I was still on the market. It was nice, I went down there, and we talked back and forth.” Blount tweeted out a picture of him donning Georgia Tech apparel with the caption “Something about this city.”
Lucky for Maryland fans, the city of Atlanta wasn’t enough to snatch Blount away from Coach Locksley and his crew. “I always wanted to go to Maryland, it’s been my dream college ever since I was young.” Blount will be joining fellow Waldorf football player Deshawn Holt, a defensive end from Westlake High School. Blount and Holt have “been friends for a while.” Blount stated that Holt played for the Westlake Bulldogs youth football team alongside his younger brother, Konner Blount-Foster (a junior at St. Charles).

Over three full years on varsity, Blount recorded 74 solo tackles, 163 total tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 4 interceptions. His accolades include multiple all-conference honors and being selected to the All-Met Defensive team this past year.
“I’m just glad it’s all over, the [recruiting] process was really stressful,” said Blount who will be majoring in broadcast journalism when he heads to College Park this fall.
Along with Blount at the St. Charles signing day event were fellow football player Andrew Gordon who committed to Division II school Lincoln University in Pennsylvania and 4-year varsity girls lacrosse player Ashley Cress who committed to Alderson Broaddus in West Virginia.
