The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs faced off against the Somerset Patriots, Saturday at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ. The Blue Crabs sent La Plata’s own, Daryl Thompson, to the mound looking to win his third consecutive start. The Pats countered with 6’3” left-handed pitcher, Graham Taylor, who was vying for his seventh win on the season. For the second night in a row, the two would head to the late innings all tied up but it was DH Jake Fox again who would hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th to give the Patriots a 5-4 victory.
The Blue Crabs offense would get out to an early lead in the top of the third when SS Renny Osuna would knock in Brian Barton and Jeremy Owens. After the Patriots would respond with a run of their own in the home half of the third, the Blue Crabs’ offense would get the run back following an Alvin Colina sacrifice fly to center to score Cesar Nicolas.
After the Blue Crabs tacked on another run in the top of the fifth, the Patriots’ offense would get going with a two-run sixth, highlighted by a Bobby Stevens run-scoring single. Somerset weren’t done as they would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a Cory Aldridge two-out RBI double center.
The two teams would remain scoreless after the seventh until the bottom of the 11th inning. Patriots designated hitter, Jake Fox, would come to the plate with a chance to send everyone home for the second straight night. He would deliver a run-scoring single propelling the Patriots to the 5-4 victory.
