The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs concluded their 2012 regular season with a clever re-creation of a classic baseball movie and handshakes for their fans who stuck with the team. Season 2012 was a roller coaster ride, as the Blue Crabs finished the first half under .500. In the second half, the club won several close games. On Friday, Sept. 21, the Blue Crabs beat the Lancaster Barnstormers 7-2 to clinch the Atlantic League of Professional Baseballโ€™s Liberty Division second half championship.

The โ€˜Stormers prevailed Saturday evening, Sept. 22 as the Blue Crabs rested several starters. The final score was Lancaster 9 Southern Maryland 2.

Prior to the start of the Sunday finale, the Blue Crabs players and coaches, led by manager Patrick Osborn, entered the playing field by way of a cornfield located near the leftfield scoreboard. The scene was a takeoff on โ€œField of Dreams.โ€ The players then entered the stands to shake hands, sign autographs, pose for pictures and to thank fans for their support.

Atlantic League Executive Director Joe Klien announced the circuitโ€™s annual All-Star Game will be played in Waldorf July 10, 2013.

The regular season came to a close with the Blue Crabs winning a close contest, 2-1.

The post season begins Wednesday night at Regency Furniture Stadium as the Blue Crabs host the Liberty Divisionโ€™s first half champion, the Long Island Ducks. The game, which starts at 7:05 p.m., is the first in a best-of-five series. The winner of the Blue Crabs-Ducks series will face the victor of the Freedom Divisionโ€™s playoff. Lancaster and York are vying for that title. The winner of the Liberty Division will have home field advantage should the series go the full five games.
