Bridgewater, NJ — After the June 27 rainout, Southern Maryland, and Somerset were forced to play two seven inning ballgames, with Southern Maryland coming out in both games by the finals of 6-1, and 2-1 in game one and two respectively.
In game one, Southern Maryland scored three runs in the top of the second. With two runners on, Casey Frawley drove a homerun over the wall to make it 3-0. In the bottom of the frame, Greg Hopkins doubled, followed by a Nate Spears triple to make it 3-1.
That would be the only run scored for the Patriots in game one. In the top of the sixth, Zach Wilson led things off with a homerun to left. Two batters later Gustavo Molina singled, and that was followed by a Jake Opitz two run homerun to bring it to the final score of 6-1.

The two teams held scoreless until the top of the fifth when Southern Maryland scored two runs. For the second straight game, Casey Frawley hit a homerun, which was then followed by an Anthony Vega homerun to make it 2-1. In the home half of the fifth, James Skelton walked, and stole second base to get into scoring position. Two batter later, Aharon Eggleston singled to bring in Skelton to make it 2-1.
Closer Erik Hamren came on for the save in the bottom of the seventh, to complete the sweep of the doubleheader. It’s the first time this season that the Blue Crabs won a series from the Somerset Patriots.
