(Waldorf MD. July 23rd 2015)-— Bridgeport’s pitching staff held Southern Maryland’s offense to just one hit, as the Bluefish beat the Blue Crabs by the final of 7-0 in game four of the series.

Both teams were held scoreless in until the top of the fourth.  Bridgeport scored four runs on six hits, while sending 10 men to the plate.  Wellington Dotel began the rally with a single, followed by a Wilson Batista triple to score Dotel to make it 1-0.  Two batters later, Andres Rodriguez walked, followed by a Brandon Jones single, and Luis Al. Rodriguez single to put runners at every bag.  The shortstop Matt Wessinger stepped to the plate and drove in two runs with a single to make it 4-0.  Two hitters later, Bryant Nelson singled with two runners on base to score Wessinger to make it 5-0.

The Bluefish added two more runs in the bottom of the top of the ninth to make it 7-0.  That’s all Bridgeport would need, as the combination of Scarpetta, Gervacio, Carson, Shuman, and Draxton threw a one hitter.  In fact, the Blue Crabs got their first hit in the bottom of the seventh on a Jovan Rosa double.  RHP Daryl Thompson started the game, going six innings, allowing five runs on ten hits.

Southern Maryland hits the road for a three game series against the Patriots in Somerset.  The first pitch is set for 7:05 P.M. tomorrow evening.  LHP Lucas Irvine (4-5, 2.64) will start for Somerset, while RHP Brian Baker (5-5, 4.16) will toss for Southern Maryland.
