On Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29 and 30, Maryland State Police held the Fourteenth Annual Polar Bear Plunge at Sandy Point State Park. Despite near blizzard conditions on Saturday the two-dayย  event, raised over 2.8 million dollars for Special Olympics Maryland.

Gov. Martin O’Malley braved the cold and blowing snow and took the plunge into the frigid Chesapeake Bay. Joining Marylandโ€™s governor were three cast members from theย soon to beย released movie, Hot Tub Time Machine who discovered the bay was a tad bit colder than their movie set.

Originally there were supposed to be two plunges on Saturday, but medical personnel standing by decided to cancelย the second Saturday plungeย due to cases of hypothermia and the five inches of snow dumped on the park.

In all, thousands of people plunged into the snowy waters and helped raised money for the Special Olympics. TheBAYNET.com was there to capture all the chilly fun.
