CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — Chesapeake Beach updated its holiday lighting budget for this year, with changes including additional lights and a new tree.
The additional $35,602.45 in the updated budget includes discounts as well as a line item for a new holiday tree. The previous tree outside Town Hall was a two-dimensional lit tree display. This new tree will be a full, artificial tree with daytime lighting features.
“It’s a major improvement over what we’ve had,” Mayor Bruce Wahl said.
“Let’s get the Hallmark going,” added another town official.
The town will still have its crab pot tree, aligning with other Southern Maryland towns celebrating their heritage of water-based economies and culture. Chesapeake Beach is also known for its festive light display along Chesapeake Beach Road and its Light Up the Town celebration, which includes visits with Santa, holiday-themed activities and seasonal treats.
Chesapeake Beach traditionally has worked with Mosca Design, a commercial holiday design firm that specializes in helping towns and municipalities with holiday decorating and festivals.
Funds for this expenditure were originally approved in the January 2026 budget amendment, so no additional funds need to be used at this time. Residents can view the town budgets online.
