Building Evacuated After Officials Found Aviation Ordnance Components Stored In An Unauthorized Area

UPDATE: Normal operations resumed at Bldg. 2187 and surrounding buildings. Scene secured.

UPDATE: Navy EOD has removed the aviation ordnance components from Bldg. 2187 for further examination. The scene there remains active as emergency services sweep the scene.

PATUXENT RIVER, Md. – NAS Patuxent River is reporting that officials found aviation ordnance components stored in an unauthorized area at Bldg. 2187.

The building has been evacuated and a perimeter has been set in an abundance of caution as emergency personnel and explosive safety representatives assess the situation and determine the best course of action.

There is no immediate threat to the public as a result of this situation, but drivers are asked to avoid the area. An update will be provided when the scene is clear.
