Charles County Sheriff Rex W. Coffey said a Crime Solvers tip helped detectives solve a burglary that occurred on May 12 at the Bunker Hill Inn at 9800 Bunker Hill Road in Waldorf.

Citing the arrest of a suspect, Sheriff Coffey said โ€œCrime Solvers played an important role in solving this case. Without the tip, detectives had very little information to go on. The tip led investigators to the suspect and good police work linked the suspect to the crime. The program worked exactly the way it was designed.โ€

Detectives say the suspect, Michael Leroy Johnson, Jr., 31 of Waldorf, broke into the store and stole boxes of candy including Reeseโ€™s Peanut Butter Cups, M&M’s, York Mints, Skittles and 5th Avenue bars. Then he stole numerous bottles of liquor including Patron Reposado, Patron Anejo, Patrol Silver, Grey Goose Vodka, Remy XO, Remy 1738, Hennessy, Remy Martin VSOP, Moet Rose, Nector Imperial and White Star. He also stole boxes of Black and Mild cigars, Newport brand cigarettes and currency. Prior to fleeing the business, Johnson destroyed two television sets that were valued at approximately $600. In all, about $2,100 worth of items were stolen.

As detectives investigated, they developed information about the suspectโ€™s involvement including information that he was selling some of the stolen liquor and candy from his house.ย  Officers executed a search warrant at Johnsonโ€™s residence and recovered numerous bottles of liquor and candy which were linked to the store. An arrest warrant was issued and Johnson was located on May 21 by members of the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office Warrant Unit.ย

Johnson was charged with burglary, malicious destruction of property and theft and remanded to the Charles County Detention Center.ย
