PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) announced two new appointments at the most recent Board of Education meeting on May 21.
Superintendent Dr. Marcus Newsome officially asked the board to confirm Katie Dean as the assistant principal at Sunderland Elementary and Sabrina Bergen as the director of student services. Both Bergen and Dean already work in CCPS and are moving to new roles.
Dean currently serves as the dean at Barstow Elementary. She previously worked as a librarian and media specialist at Chesapeake Public Charter School in St. Mary’s County and as a middle school science and STEM teacher. Dean holds a bachelor’s degree in teaching from Notre Dame of Maryland.
“I am sincerely grateful for this incredible opportunity and for the confidence you’ve placed in me,” Dean said in her remarks. “I am both humbled and deeply grateful. To the Sunderland Elementary students, staff and families, I look forward to working collaboratively with you to continue fostering a positive, supportive and thriving school community.”
Bergen is the current supervisor of information technology. She’s also served as the principal at Plum Point Middle School and Patuxent High School, the vice principal at Huntingtown High School, the coordinator of mathematics at CCPS and the mathematics core lead teacher at Northern High School. Bergen holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics, a master’s degree in leadership and is working toward a doctorate degree in educational leadership at Liberty University.
“I am honored and grateful to serve CCPS as the director of student services. As both an educator and a parent of four kids across all three grade levels, this role is deeply personal to me and I’m fully invested in the success of every student we serve,” Bergen said during the meeting.
Both new appointments were confirmed in unanimous votes by the board.
