Calvert County Marine Museum Renews License With Local Family For Event Parking

SOLOMONS, Md. — Calvert County’s Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to renew the parking lot license agreement with the Glascock family, which helps provide parking for all types of events at the Calvert Marine Museum.

The Glascock family owns the grass field on Solomons Island Road directly west of the museum. During special large events, the family has granted permission to allow parking on the field.

For years, the field has been used as a lot for the Solomons Maritime Festival, Sharkfest and Patuxent River Appreciation Day, as well as CMM Society events, including the Waterside Music Series.

The Calvert Marine Museum Society maintains a license agreement with the family that addresses the conditions of use and insurance requirements for museum events. According to a memo submitted by Jeffrey Murray, Calvert Marine Museum director, the family asked to renew the agreement.

The memo also states that the Calvert Marine Museum Society finds and pays for the insurance coverage required under the agreement, but there is no fiscal impact to the Calvert County government for entering into this license agreement.

In the agreement, the family requires several conditions to be met, including receiving a list of events in advance. The agreement will expire in December 2027 and will automatically renew for four consecutive years unless terminated.

The Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the license agreement, along with several other consent agenda items, without additional discussion.
