Calvert County Government to Host Fourth Annual Citizens Academy

Prince Frederick, MD –ย  November 13, 2019 โ€“ The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners announces applications are being accepted for the fourth annual Calvert County Government Citizens Academy. The nine-week informational program is designed for residents interested in learning more about the inner workings of local government.

Citizens Academy will meet every Thursday from Jan. 9 through March 5, 2020, 6-9 p.m. The program features site visits to facilities throughout the county and discussions with county leadership and employees for an in-depth look at the daily work of county government departments and the Sheriffโ€™s Office.

County government performs many essential functions and services for the well-being of the community. Participants will learn how Calvert County provides these services to the public through presentations, tours, demonstrations and Q&A. Topics covered include county administration, county attorney, communications and media relations, community resources, economic development, finance and budget, general services, human resources, parks and recreation, planning and zoning, public safety, public works, technology services, Sheriffโ€™s Office and detention center.

Applications must be received by Monday, Dec. 2, 2019. The first 25 county residents to apply will be accepted into the program. There is no cost to attend. Applicants must be Calvert County residents 18 years of age or older.
