NORTH BEACH, Md. — A Calvert County man was ordered held without bond Wednesday after his first court appearance on multiple child sex-offense charges filed by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, according to charging documents.

Timothy Lee Townsend, 41, of North Beach, is charged with second-degree rape of a child younger than 14, third-degree sex offense involving a child younger than 14, fourth-degree sexual contact, sexual abuse of a minor in a household or family setting, and second-degree assault. The offenses are alleged to have occurred Oct. 20, 2025, records show.

According to filings, the investigation began after authorities received a report in late October that led detectives to interview involved adults and to conduct a forensic interview with a juvenile at the Calvert County Child Advocacy Center on Oct. 28. Following those interviews, an arrest warrant was issued the same day.

An arrest warrant signed Oct. 28 by District Court Judge Ruth Devore was served Nov. 4, records show. Townsend was taken into custody and made an initial appearance that day, during which he was ordered held without bond.

On Wednesday, Nov. 5, District Judge Robyn Riddle conducted a bail review and again ordered Townsend held without bond.

If convicted of all charges, Townsend faces more than 60 years in prison based on statutory maximums under Maryland law: up to 20 years for second-degree rape; up to 10 years for third-degree sex offense; up to 1 year for fourth-degree sex offense; up to 25 years for sexual abuse of a minor; and up to 10 years for second-degree assault. Judges may order sentences to run consecutively or concurrently.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 1, 2025, at 1 p.m. in Calvert District Court, Courtroom 2. Felony counts are eligible for transfer to Circuit Court if the case is indicted or otherwise forwarded.
