On September 5, 2012 the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office Explorers Post #91 hosted their first Explorers Meeting of the 2012-2013 school year.ย ย  The Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office Explorer Program is in affiliation with the Law Enforcement Exploring Program, a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America. The intent of this program is to educate and involve youth in police operations. Through their involvement, youth in the Explorer Program develop an awareness of the complexities of police service. Explorers are volunteers and are not considered to be employees of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office. The Explorer Post is made up of young men and women ranging in age from 14 to 21.ย  Explorers must have parent or guardian approval, must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 or higher, and must pass a background check.

Starting with pizza and wings from our local Prince Frederick Dominoโ€™s, the post advisors were introduced and the meeting commenced.ย  A brief orientation and introduction of the post was conducted by Deputy V. Evans with the assistance of Advisor Kristen Formy-Duval and Advisor Nola Formy-Duval.ย  Also in attendance was Advisor Shauna Underwood.ย  After the orientation the Explorers went outside for physical training.ย  Thirty minutes later they were relieved to see their guest speaker had arrived.ย  ACO Fisher of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office Animal Control Unit came and spoke to the post about the Animal Control Unit and Maryland Animal laws.ย

The Calvert County Explorers Post meets every first and third Wednesday of each month from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office, 30 Church Street in Prince Frederick.ย ย  The next meeting is scheduled for September 19.ย
