When James W. Carroll, Jr. decided that his final days would not be spent having treatments for his lung cancer, he told his doctor, โ€œNo more treatments, I want to live my final days without the side effects and nausea.โ€ And, when James shared the news with his two surviving sisters, they supported his decision to enter hospice care through Calvert Hospice.

James W. Carroll, Jr. enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September of 1969 and went on to the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. He was later stationed as an Engine Mechanic aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Independence (CAV62) and went on to achieve the rank of Third Class Petty Officer. Carroll also received the National Defense Service Medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation before discharging in March of 1973.

At a recent ceremony, Calvert Hospice followed the guidelines set by their โ€œWe Honor Veteransโ€ program and officially honored and thanked Mr. Carroll for his years of service. The ceremony was performed by Major Linzy Laughhunn, USAF ANG NGB/HC.
