Maryland State Fire Marshall’s are investigating an accidental house fire in Lusby. The fire broke out on April 2 around 12:21 p.m., in the 11500 block of Buckskin Court in a one-story single family home.
Over 35 firefighters from Solomons, St. Leonard, Hollywood and Bay District responded to the one-alarm blaze to discoverย the fire was started by the careless use of an oxyacetylene torch that was being used to cut scrap metal. The fire spread from the yard debris (leaves) to the side of the house. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control after 45 minutes of firefighting operations.
No injuries were reported. Smoke alarms were present in the home but did not activate.
Damage as a result of the blaze is ringing in at $235,000.
Red Cross is assisting the occupants of the home.
